The Australian Museum (AM) operates within the NSW Department of Planning and was founded in 1827, it is the first museum in Australia. The AM provides access, engagement and scientific research to increase our understanding of natural history and culture, particularly of the Australasian region. The AM is the custodian of more than 18 million objects of biological, geological and cultural collections and conducts scientific research, develops programs, exhibitions and school and community education initiatives onsite, online and offsite. Primary Purpose of the role:

The Chief Executive leads and directs the development, implementation and ongoing review of the strategic direction, operations, people and resources of the Australian Museum (AM) to ensure the Museum delivers on its vision and objectives in accordance with the Australian Museum Trust Act 1975, the AM’s Strategic Plan and broader NSW government objectives.

To be successful in this role you will have a proven track record at a senior executive level leading a complex organisation. Your knowledge and/or experience of government will be beneficial. Your experience as a strategic and commercially astute leader with excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership approach and strong relationship skills will further contribute to your success.
