After more than five years as Director, Roy Clare CBE is to step down by the end of 2016. He and his wife are returning to their home in the UK as they had envisaged they would eventually do when he accepted an initial three-year contract in 2011.

The Trust Board has initiated an international search for a new Director to support the continued growth and performance of Auckland War Memorial Museum and to take forward ‘Future Museum’, the vision and strategy published in 2012.

Global Search organization Saxton Bampfylde has been appointed as a result of a competitive RFP process that featured proposals from NZ companies. Saxton Bampfylde will be working alongside their New Zealand business partner Hobson Levy, based in Auckland. Strong Kiwi candidates are expected to come forward for this prestigious role. They will compete against the best that can be found through an international search. This broad-based approach is very much a twenty-first century given for cultural leadership appointments at this level, for leaders in the cultural sector. Museums operate in a global market and Auckland Museum offers a highly-attractive professional opportunity for the right person.
