The Sovereign Hill Museums Association presents, in a dynamic group of museums, the mining, social, cultural and environmental heritage of the Ballarat region and its impact on Australia’s history.

In addition to the award-winning outdoor museum which interprets the Victorian gold rushes, the Association operates ‘Blood on the Southern Cross’ – the Eureka sound-and-light show, the Gold Museum, and Narmbool Environmental Discovery Camps.

Sovereign Hill Education provides programs tailored to suit the specific learning agendas of school groups and their teachers from Prep to VCE. An opportunity now exists for an experienced educator to join our Education team on a full time ongoing basis.

Sovereign Hill’s education programs are based on a commitment to the principles of student-centred learning and an understanding of how people learn in informal settings.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop and deliver programs which engage students’ imaginations and thinking processes through creative, ‘hands-on’ learning. In keeping with our commitment to the professional development of teachers, you will also design and deliver workshops for other educators.

We are particularly seeking a person with specialist skills in History (especially Australian History) or Geography.

Experience in schools is ideal but experience in education in science centres, universities or museums are relevant. You will have a deep understanding of program development and application of the AusVELS across the school curriculum. You will be keen to work with new ways of engaging teachers and students using online and contemporary learning technologies. Recent graduates are also welcome to apply.
