Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibitions, events and educational programmes.

This is an exceptional opportunity; the successful candidate will bring with them learning expertise to deliver innovative, engaging, and relevant learning experiences for diverse audiences onsite, online, and beyond our walls.

They will be responsible for the development and delivery of an integrated learning programme that is strong at our core, shared and connected through digital channels, and alive in Auckland communities.

Key accountabilities include;

  • The development and delivery of inspirational and transformational best practice GLAM sector education programmes ensuring excellence and innovation.
  • Contribution to the development and growth of the ‘beyond the walls’ programme and provide quality engaging museum experiences in a wide range of places, such as community locations, libraries and schools through fostering participation, collaboration and contribution from Auckland’s diverse communities.
  • Ensuring the Maori Dimension (He Korahi Maori) and Pacific Dimension (Teu le Va) are embedded into education programmes.
  • The development of high-quality and innovative digital offers including learning resources and leveraging off Collections Online.
  • Contribution to gallery renewal as part of a dynamic Learning and Engagement team.

To be successful in this role, you will have;

  • A minimum of two to three years’ experience in the education and GLAM sector.
  • A strong passion for learning with relevant teaching qualification or equivalent work experience.
  • Quality degree in education, museum studies, or related speciality.
  • Proven experience of embedding Maori tikanga and Pacific dimensions into education programming.
  • Excellent pronunciation of Te Reo Maori; a high level of competency in Maori, a Pacific language, or another language would be very desirable.
  • Proven experience embedding a community empowerment methodology, to allow us to build a stronger connection to our learners through our collections, knowledge and stories.
  • Have demonstrable skills in the identification and application of education best practice within the GLAM sector, using an advanced understanding of contemporary education pedagogies, future-thinking ideas, creativity, and market knowledge to ensure excellence and innovation.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand education system and key policy documents such as the New Zealand Curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, National Standards, Ka Hikitia, Pasifika Education Plan, Ministry statement of strategic intent, and key web-based resources such as TKI.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross functional team environment.
