This is a unique opportunity to take the lead in operating and further developing the highly successful Bunjilaka gallery within Melbourne Museum. This position is also responsible for developing and enhancing partnerships between Aboriginal communities and Museum Victoria and for contributing to exhibition development and educational and visitor services. Critical to this position will be your proven record of involvement with Aboriginal communities, your record in promoting Reconciliation and your understanding of community expectations regarding cultural heritage issues.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The position is accountable for ensuring that Museum Victoria is an effective partner of the Aboriginal community through collaboration with other groups in Museum Victoria and the management of stakeholder relationships, particularly Aboriginal communities across the state.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, and develop understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community culture as it relates to Victoria and Australia with an emphasis on responding to Museum Victoria and community needs
- A proven record of involvement in successful community consultation and associated liaison and negotiation skills and experience
- An appreciation of the dimensions of current Indigenous issues, their impact on Australian society and implications at a personal level
- A sound understanding of the significance of cultural property and the implications of this for community access
- Extensive experience in the development of strategy, programs, projects and supporting initiatives, systems, policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage, influence and negotiate effectively at all levels and a proven capacity to develop effective relationships with a range of stakeholders
- Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and decision-making skills, including the ability to manage pressure, ambiguity and change and to meet deadlines.
Sound knowledge of project management principles and associated practical experience. - The successful incumbent is required to obtain, and meet the cost of, a Working with Children check and National Police Records check and be assessed as suitable.

The salary on offer is $95,572 p.a. base of grade + 9.5% superannuation.
