The Australian Museum is a museum of the 21st century, presenting contemporary issues and popular debate about the cultural and natural worlds. The Museum is soon to open a new Indigenous gallery called Sea Country, build a new Pacific Gallery, participate in the Corroboree Festival, and has an active RAP. The new Cultural Collection Acquisition Policy consists of three priority areas; Contemporary Indigenous, Contemporary Pacific, and Aboriginal NSW. The Museum seeks innovative and committed people to work across collections, programs and audience engagement.

The Creative Producer – Cultural Programs is responsible for the development of innovative programs to deliver audience engagement and participation. Programs are designed in consultation with the community. These programs contribute to the Museum brand and provide meaningful contemporary contribution to discourse about First Peoples or science or other Museum priorities.

The Requirements

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate experience in a similar role with a strong understanding of contemporary museum programming theory and practice. You will have demonstrated experience within a public programs team and experience in developing innovative programs for museum audiences. You will bring to this role an understanding of translating cultural, historical, natural history and contemporary culture programs for Indigenous and culturally diverse audiences as well as the principles of event and project management.

Aboriginality is an essential requirement for this position. An Aboriginal person (as defined by the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983) means a person who is a member of the Aboriginal race of Australia, and identifies as an Aboriginal person, and is accepted by the Aboriginal community as an Aboriginal person.
