Job Description

The Conservator, Textiles is a full time and permanent role responsible for specialist conservation and care of Auckland Museum’s textile collections, to enable their use within the Museum and to increase access for a range of external communities and stakeholders.

This position will lead the approach to preventive and interventive conservation for textiles across all collecting areas (Human History, Natural Sciences and Documentary Heritage) using risk management and best practice guidelines.

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this specialist role, you will offer:

  • A Tertiary qualification in Textile Conservation
  • Membership of NZCCM or internationally recognised Conservation affiliations
  • A minimum of 3 years conservation experience in museums or heritage institutions
  • Experience treating a wide range of objects and materials
  • Experience in working with taonga Māori or other culturally sensitive material
  • A collaborative approach and excellent interpersonal skills including proven effective written and verbal communications
