Role Purpose/Context:
The South Australian Museum is a leading research institution, one of the most visited museums in Australia, and holds collections of national and international significance. It is a leader in remote and regional community engagement, and in Australian Aboriginal heritage and scientific research. The purpose of the Museum is to inspire in all people a wonder and curiosity about life on Earth. The Public Engagement team works with Museum staff and partners to bring the stories of the Museum’s research and collections to life in vibrant and exciting ways for all people. The team is responsible for the delivery of the Museum’s ongoing exhibition program, its education and engagement programs for the public, and the communications and marketing strategy of the Museum.

The 3D Design Officer will work closely with the 3D Design Specialist to contribute to the planning, design, production, and monitoring of South Australian Museum temporary and permanent exhibitions and displays, with a specific focus on the development and design of three dimensional exhibition components such as specimens and educational aids through traditional museum techniques including taxidermy, anatomical preparation, model making, paleontological preparation and conservation, moulding and casting and diorama construction.

Key Selection Criteria:

Essential/Desirable Qualifications:
A certificate level qualification in Art, Sculpture, Object Design or similar is desirable. Alternatively, the incumbent could be working towards one of these qualifications.

Special Conditions:
This is a contract / term vacancy up to December 2019. Some out of hours’ business work, intra and Interstate travel may also be required. Engagement in this role may be subject to a satisfactory Department for Communities and Social Inclusion background screening check.
