MAAS currently operates three sites, the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, Sydney Observatory in Millers Point and Museums Discovery Centre in Castle Hill. In April 2018, the NSW Government announced the largest investment in museum infrastructure in Australia’s history, which will enable MAAS to expand its operations, and will ensure the Museum and its collection remain a critical part of our local and global communities for centuries to come.
The opportunity
As the Security, Safety and Environment Manager at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, you will play a key role in delivering excellence in visitor experience through ensuring a high standard of security, cleanliness and safety for visitors and the Museum’s Collection.
You will be responsible for managing the functions of security, cleaning and safety, and will collaborate widely across the Museum to ensure that the delivery of services complements operations.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Manage and mentor a team, be a role model for positive values and behaviours.
- Identify opportunities for continual improvement of the systems and operations of the department.
- Manage the procurement of and performance delivery of service delivery contracts supporting the day to day operations of the Museum for Security and Cleaning operations.
- In partnership with other Department and Team managers, maintain a high level of WHS awareness and monitoring compliance with WH&S procedures in all areas of the museum.
- Ensure safety and emergency procedures and systems are in place and that key staff are trained and prepared.
To be successful in this role you must have:
- Qualifications in security management, operations management or a related field.
- Class 1 security licence and be eligible to hold the Master Security License on behalf of the Museum.
- Excellent knowledge of emergency and security procedures, the ability to maintain a high level of emergency and security preparedness and a thorough understanding of relevant security and WH&S legislation and practices.
- Experience in managing contracts of considerable value to ensure value for money and contract performance standards are met.
- Operational management experience, preferably gained in a public venue or similar environment, with particular expertise in the areas of security and customer service.
- Experience in the operation and development of electronic security systems and associated procedures.
