In an exciting period of transformation and growth, Te Papa is seeking an innovative practitioner and creative producer to help grow audience engagement across interdisciplinary content within the museum’s wider public programme. You will help us grow our offer with a special focus on creating meaningful opportunities to engage with Te Papa’s resources and collections, and to support building our audiences.

The Public Programming team comprises a range of creative practitioners and producers, strongly motivated to work for and with our communities and to create space for meaningful engagement at Te Papa for a range of audiences. Our Specialists are all responsible for the creative design, development, delivery and evaluation of their programmes, with strong support for one another’s kaupapa. Most programmes are delivered at Te Papa, with digital and social integration. You will also work alongside Te Papa’s curatorial, collections, exhibitions, digital, marketing, communications and visitor services teams.

You will possess the following:

  public programmes for our audiences that engage with Te Taiao Natural History, Toi Art and Aotearoa History content drawing on Te Papa’s
  broader programme, taonga and resources
• You will have scope to be creative and innovative in engaging audiences in new ways. You enjoy developing new programmes and products, and
  you believe in testing ideas and experimenting
• You are an advocate for priority minority audiences, bring a range of innovative engagement practices and you create participatory public
  experiences
• You have project management and planning skills, and you are comfortable balancing multiple priorities
• You have strong networks and relationships in your field
• You’re skilled at stakeholder management and developing partnerships and you will positively represent Te Papa

The Public Programmes team is a hardworking, creative and values-driven team who strive to engage a wide range of audiences with Te Papa’s collections and resources. We work right across the breadth of Te Papa’s activities, and we’re looking for a public programmes specialist who will help us create a range of dynamic programmes with a strong focus on engaging audiences in interdisciplinary content for innovative life-long learning experiences.

About the role

Some flexibility in hours to supervise and deliver public programmes during evenings and weekends will be required. All applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.

Te Papa is committed to the protection and wellbeing of children. A component of this role involves interaction with children so, as a part of the assessment process, we will require police vetting of preferred candidates to ensure we are providing a safe environment for children. This requirement complies with the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.

The starting salary for this position will be between $66,000 – $83,000 p.a. with further room for progression through the band. Offers will be made within the range to reflect the skills and experience offered by the candidate and those required of the role, and internal relativities with other employees.

Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain the legal right to work in New Zealand.

Appointment to a position at Te Papa will require the production of evidence, prior to the commencement of work, of a ‘My Vaccine Pass’ issued by the Ministry of Health.

Prior to Te Papa confirming any offer of employment, pre-employment checks will be undertaken including criminal conviction history and reference checking as a minimum.
