Junior Graphic Designer – Māori/Pacific design focus

Opportunity
This is a great opportunity to be part of a bicultural, cross-disciplinary museum, where you can learn about exhibition design, work alongside experts in various fields, and also share your own fresh perspectives, especially in relation to reaching Māori and Pacific audiences.
Reporting to the Design Team Leader, this position sits in the Experience Design and Content Team, within Te Papa’s Audience and Insight Directorate.
Emphasis
We’re looking for someone passionate about Māori and/or Pacific design, with an evolving understanding of associated forms, motifs, and tikanga. You’ll be keen to explore and expand your practice alongside our Design Team, and to mix with incredible storytellers and researchers in the museum sector.
Role
The role will involve a range of activities, from business-as-usual tasks like laying out general exhibition labels and updating wayfinding signage, to supporting the design of iwi/community-based exhibitions, to contributing to our collaborative mahi more generally.
Guided by our more senior designers, and working alongside the wider creative team and subject experts, you’ll do the following:
- Provide graphic-design services, including advice, design, and production for exhibitions, exhibition-related products, and other in-house projects
- Participate in all aspects of the graphic-design process to meet project deadlines: creative concept; design, illustration, and typesetting; and production and delivery
- Uphold the Te Papa brand, and our design standards

Given that this is an entry-level opportunity, which will come with lots of coaching and support, the starting salary will be $60,000.
