As one of Sydney’s most visited museums, the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) is committed to being a world leader in maritime history, sharing the national maritime story across Australia and providing a must-visit museum experience.

In this position you will provide 3D design for exhibitions, digital and interactive experiences at the museum, for installation in other venues and in collaboration with other cultural and commercial organisations that achieve the museum’s mission to promote a broad interpretation of maritime science, heritage and culture. It is also required to design of the physical forms of exhibitions, experiences and other projects personally or by commissioning and managing external 3D design contractors as required.

We are looking for a 3D exhibition designer who is excited to work in a fast paced, creative and dynamic environment for one of Sydney’s most visited museums.

To be successful in this role you are an industrial, interior, or similar designer with at least 3-5 years of experience in design and detailing and fast paced creative design work for semi-permanent physical spaces.

In this position your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide highly creative designs and documentation of museum exhibitions and experiences that inform, engage and inspire visitors under the direction of the Design Office Manager.
  • Produce drawings, plans, specifications, tender, and construction documents that enable the approval and fabrication of exhibitions and experience.
  • Produce design presentations with renders, elevations and documentation to team members, Executive and other stakeholders.
  • Work with the Design Office Manager and other departments to resolve design issues and implement recommended actions.
  • In collaboration with other departments contribute to and work within project budgets and timeframes.
  • Conduct site check measures as required.
  • Liaise with contractors and consultants as well as overview their work against museum standards.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in architecture, interior design, industrial design or experience/exhibition design.
  • Familiarity with CAD and graphics software.
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a similar role.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Demonstrated understanding of museum practices and procedures.
  • Experience designing for museum collections including large objects.
  • Experience across all project phases.
  • Experience in Vectorworks and the Adobe suite.

Selection for this position will be made on the basis of relative merit which will be assessed against each item of the selection criteria. Psychometric tests may be used as the initial short-listing test or later in the selection process. Some tests are short while others may take one or more hours.
