The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a professional to join the Collection Engagement team. This Business Unit focuses on the current and future processes supporting engagement with the Museum’s collections, including building the Museum’s capacity to manage, store and preserve digital collection material.

The Collection Engagement Business Unit encompasses a diverse range of activities that make the Museum’s collections discoverable. These include collection documentation, collection imaging and digitisation, supporting and developing the Museum’s Collection Management System (EMu) and Digital Asset Management System (Piction), managing associated intellectual property (IP) rights, managing the Library and Archive collections, and providing public access to the collection – both online and on-site in the Museum’s collection stores  The Business Unit also includes a First Nations Collections section, which is responsible for repatriation, facilitating First Nations community access to collections, and enhancing the knowledge of the First Nations collections held by the Museum.

This position is part of a small, dedicated team that has primary responsibility for providing copyright and licensing services for a broad range of internal and external clients This includes assisting with the delivery of exhibitions, publications, programs, marketing, web and social media activities by obtaining appropriate clearances and consents and ensuring IP rights, cultural rights and privacy are managed in line with Museum policies and relevant legislation.

The Copyright Services team provides guidance on IP as it relates to Museum collections and associated activities. The team also researches and sources external media assets for Museum projects and manages requests from external parties to licence Museum material for use in Australia and internationally.

The team also provides guidance across the Museum in relation to copyright and intellectual property as it relates to Museum collections and associated work and activities.  As part of the Museum’s obligations under the museum’s First Nations Cultural Rights and Engagement policy the team also consults with Indigenous artists, their agent, or relevant community/art centre, as appropriate.

The key duties of the position include:

The successful candidate will bring high-level administrative and communication skills and experience in a customer service area. You will be well organized, client-focused and pay strong attention to detail. An ability to manage multiple priorities is essential. You will work in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and your ability to be flexible and adapt to change is paramount. The role is deadline based and you will play an important part in delivering museum outputs.

Ideally, the successful candidate will also have some experience of IP rights management, copyright, and community clearance work.
