The key duties of the position include:

Reporting to the Director and working in close collaboration with the senior executive team, the Museums Council, Foundation and key external stakeholders, the Deputy Director is responsible for leading the realisation of the Museum’s vision, supporting outstanding visitor experiences and building and implementing strategies to maximise the percentage of the Museum’s self-generated revenue.

This newly revised position combines a mix of operational, People and Culture, philanthropy, corporate communications and relationship management responsibilities. Of critical importance is exceptional communication and leadership skills to build worker capability and embed a culture of customer service excellence, ownership, collaboration and innovation across the Museum.

The position is also responsible for promoting the Museums profile as a leading cultural organisation in both state and national forums. A key requirement is flexibility as the position will evolve and change as the museum grows.

Eligibility

High level Overview of Key Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in leadership, business management and development supported by extensive successful experience in building profitable business and revenue generation outcomes.
  • Extensive experience working as part of a senior leadership team.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent an organisation with authority and credibility, including strong communication skills and an ability to engage and negotiate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen and proven success growing revenue and margins in a similar multi-function, revenue-focused role within a public destination, cultural organisation or commercial development organisation including experience in the development of commercial, cultural, hospitality and retail operations.
