We are currently seeking a highly proactive and collaborative Software Engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining applications and hardware software. This role will be performing hands-on automation and software development tasks across exhibitions and interactives.

In this role you will:

  • Collaborate with the Exhibitions & Operations team and other stakeholder groups regarding exhibition design, scope and outcomes to inform new exhibition and interactive software development needs.
  • Design and develop applications software in line with design briefs, includes assessing job requirements and providing technical advice.
  • Support Electronics Engineer in the development of novel and innovative approaches in the use of technology – such as electronic and mechanical components.
  • Document the design and software requirements for all exhibitions.
  • Preparing and maintaining software and program documentation.
  • Modifying and troubleshooting applications software.

 

Who are we looking for? 

We are seeking an individual who is self-motivated and can prioritise work whilst working within an extended team to deliver and meet deadlines.

Other skills and experience required includes:

  • Experience in project management, planning and management of projects with a focus on STEM.
  • Experience developing, testing and controlling applications using Python and C++ (preferred software languages).
  • Experience interfacing off-the-shelf machine components in hardware and software and writing higher level software to coordinate control.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian) operating systems.
  • Experience working in software development processes is desirable.
  • Experience with electronic drawings will be highly regarded.

 

Qualifications and licences:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or similar, with a strong focus on Software Development.
  • Minimum 1 – 2 years’ experience in C/C++, Python or other software development.
  • National Police Clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • A background in Mechatronics will be highly regarded.
