NT Gov proposes leasing or sub-leasing

The Northern Territory government has been accused of “vandalising” a major cultural asset, as it considers “partial occupancy” as an option for use of the near-complete State Square Gallery building in Darwin.

In August, the government began seeking expressions of interest (EOI) for the purpose-built facility, after a surprise announcement in May that the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT (MAGNT) would not necessarily be awarded the lease.

Last week, the government told prospective tenants it would consider splitting the lease between interested parties, and that they could submit proposals for either single floors or galleries within the building.
