We are seeking a Manager, Engineering, Maintenance & Construction to lead the engineering and build of interactive exhibits and to ensure lifecycle reliability and safety. You will own the mechanical and fabrication delivery of exhibits, and the maintenance program that keeps them performing to specification, on time, on budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.

This position is offered on a permanent full-time basis.

  • Reports to Operations Manager, Exhibition Production
  • Direct Reports: Exhibition technicians, Logistics officer, Engineering Intern

In this role you will:

  • Lead engineering and fabrication delivery for new exhibits: translate design intent into buildable solutions, plan production, and oversee assembly, testing, and commissioning.
  • Own lifecycle maintenance: implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs, spares, and asset records to maximise uptime and reduce reactive fixes.
  • Establish and run QA/QC: stage gates, test plans, documentation and change control.
  • Ensure compliance and safety: implement safe systems of work, JSA and relevant standards; lead incident reviews and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the team: recruit, coach, and manage engineers, technicians, and trades; plan resources and contractor usage.
  • Control budgets and schedules: forecast labour/materials, track costs, manage procurement, and deliver to agreed timelines.
  • Approve technical solutions: review and sign off engineering approaches; coordinate external certifications where required.
  • Collaborate across functions: partner with Design, Software & Digital, Experience Curation, and Project Delivery to de-risk integration and installation.
  • Manage logistics: plan and oversee movement of materials and exhibits between suppliers, workshop, warehouse, and sites; ensure proper packing and handling.
  • Drive standardisation: elevate design-for-maintenance, documentation standards, and modularity to support travelling/commercial deployments.

Who are we looking for?

  • Proven leadership in engineering/fabrication for interactive exhibits, themed entertainment, museum/gallery fit-outs, or related hardware production.
  • Strong systems engineering mindset across mechanical, electrical, controls/AV integration, and manufacturability.
  • Demonstrated experience running preventive maintenance programs, asset management, and spares planning.
  • Hands-on familiarity with workshop practices, CNC workflows, and vendor/contractor management.
  • Financial and scheduling acumen: comfortable with budgets, procurement, and production plans.
  • WHS-first leader with experience implementing safe systems of work in fabrication/installation environments.
  • Tertiary qualification in engineering (mechanical, mechatronics, electrical) or equivalent senior trade/operations experience; 5+ years post-qualification.

Please note shortlisting for this role will start immediately.
