The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Trades and Arts and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. It cares for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 150,000 objects and protects the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Victorian gold rush.

We are an Australian tourism icon that attracts some 500,000 visitors annually. The Outdoor Museum is internationally renowned as a living museum featuring rare trades, and programs and experiences that interpret a pivotal point in Australia’s history. In all, some 350 staff work to bring our gold-rush story to life. They are supported by over 250 volunteers.

About the Role

The Mine and Guides Coordinator is responsible for assisting with overseeing the day to day activities of the Mine Operations by providing leadership to and assisting with, training of new and existing employees, and assisting with daily mine and steam operational requirements. This will include guides working both above and below ground in all tour areas. The Mine, Steam and Tours Operations Department is responsible for providing visitors to Sovereign Hill with an accurate representation of the gold mining era of the Ballarat Gold rush region.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertake Senior Mine Guide duties
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of training session, staff meetings and evacuation sessions as required
  •   Assisting with monthly reports including mine numbers report and presentations
  •  Ensure all equipment and SOPs are used and adhered to in the appropriate manner, and report any issues to Manager Mine, Steam and Tours
  • Assist the Manager Mine, Steam and Tours with the development of departmental procedures and associated training tools – updating, maintaining and delivering training sessions for new and current guides

 

Desired Qualifications

  • A Certificate III or higher in guiding, tourism and/or management would be highly regarded
  • Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate would be highly regarded
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment would be highly regarded
