ASO4 – SA Maritime Museum Manager

An exciting opportunity to work in a pivotal role at the SA Maritime Museum, located in the historic Port Adelaide precinct.

The Opportunity

The SA Maritime Museum (SAMM) Manager is responsible for leading a dedicated team to deliver excellence in visitor experiences, the security and integrity of the SAMM’s heritage buildings, contents and grounds and the delivery of a highly positive experience of the History Trust of South Australia.

Key components of the role

  • Coordinate and oversee the core visitor experience and day-to-day operations of the SA Maritime Museum, ensuring high standards of service and effective business outcomes.
  • Manage the administrative, retail, financial, and HR functions of the museum.
  • Manage and support staff and volunteers through effective induction, training, performance management, and scheduling.
  • Work collaboratively with other Museum Managers for continuous improvement in aligning and streamling services, business operations and visitor experience initiatives.
  • Coordinate delivery of public programs, education sessions, tours, events, and launches that promote engagement and learning opportunities for diverse audiences.
  • Contribute to marketing and promotional activities, in collaboration and under direction from the Marketing team.
  • Oversee the security, maintenance, and integrity of the museum’s buildings, collections, and grounds, including supporting emergency preparedness and capital works.
  • Oversee the Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices, ensuring hazards and incidents are managed in accordance with organisational policies and the proactive promotion of a safe workplace across all museum activities.
  • Assist in identifying, developing, and managing income-generating activities, funding sources, and commercial opportunities that support the museum’s sustainability.

You have a keen interest in South Australia’s maritime history and are a dynamic individual, able to adapt, innovate and lead high performing teams with a customer led focus.

Special Conditions

Some out of hours work may be required. Occasional weekend work may be required. Engagement in this role is subject to a satisfactory Department of Human Services Working with Children Check. Intrastate and interstate travel may be required and a current driver’s licence is desirable.
