The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking a highly experienced Senior Advisor, Work Health and Safety to join the Security and Safety team in a full-time, ongoing role, bringing strong expertise in work health and safety.

About the Role

The Senior Advisor, Work Health and Safety will report to, and work collaboratively with, the Head of Facilities, Security and Safety to provide a range of internal advisory services to build Work Health and Safety capabilities across all levels of the Museum. The Senior Advisor will engage with a diverse range of stakeholders to make a significant contribution in supporting managers and staff in the agency.

The role will provide complex advice across a spectrum of matters primarily in relation to WHS, case management and risk. The Senior Advisor will contribute to process improvement, policy and strategy development initiatives, and support their implementation through the provision of advice and training.

Working within a small team, a large focus for the role will be around managing the WHS, and training processes for the Museum.

Please note: This recruitment process is intended to fill both current and future vacancies. While the position on offer is ongoing, a merit pool of suitable applicants may be established to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions within the next 18 months.

Key Accountabilities

Under limited direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:

  • In consultation with business areas and senior leadership, develop, implement and manage work health and safety and wellbeing programs.
  • Provide advice on the application of work health and safety legislation and Museum policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to implementation and continuous improvement of wellbeing and work health and safety management systems in accordance with legislation and Museum policies.
  • Engage and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts to resolve work health and safety issues.
  • WHS case management including liaison with Comcare.
  • Management of workplace responsibility roles, e.g. fire wardens, first aid officer and Health and Safety Representatives including training and reporting.
  • Partner with business areas to provide complex and timely advice particularly in relation WHS and compliance.

 

Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will demonstrate their capacity against the following:

  1. Significant experience in work health and safety management, combined with knowledge of relevant APS frameworks.
  2. Ability to provide detailed work health and safety professional and policy advice and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.
  3. A strong business partnering focus, with a commitment to fostering internal and external relationships.
  4. Be able to influence others to ensure Work Health and Safety objectives are achieved and effectively liaise with stakeholders to ensure that the Museum meets Work Health and Safety compliance and reporting requirements.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively and accurately.
  6. Experience in managing and delivering projects.

 

Qualifications and/or relevant experience required

Mandatory:

  • WHS qualifications or the willingness to acquire.
