ABOUT THE POSITION:

As a Retail Assistant with Museums Victoria, you will work across multiple retail sites to generate sales and actively engage with visitors. The role is responsible for maximising profitability by achieving sales targets and delivering a high level of customer service, contributing to the overall success and sustainability of MV Retail.

Some of the key duties include: 

  • Maximising sales and profitability by achieving sales targets and retail KPIs across multiple sites
  • Delivering a high level of customer service and providing product knowledge to visitors
  • Working collaboratively with Retail Team Leaders, the Retail Operations Manager and the broader Retail team to achieve team goals, including online retail activities
  • Assisting with retail operations such as exhibition shop bump in/out, stockroom tasks, visual merchandising and stock monitoring
  • Supporting store operations by stepping into higher duties when required, including leading casual staff during busy periods
  • Operating point of sale and inventory systems to process transactions and manage stock accurately
  • Assisting with reconciliation of daily takings and ensuring accurate cash handling in line with policies
  • Supporting stock control, data entry and participating in annual stocktakes
  • Monitoring shop security and safety and taking appropriate action as required
  • Complying with organisational policies, procedures and relevant legislation

 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in achieving sales targets, retail KPIs and maximising profitability
  • Proven ability to deliver high level customer service and effectively engage with customers and visitors
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Well-developed organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage tasks in a fast-paced retail setting while maintaining a customer-first focus
  • Experience in stock maintenance and inventory control to a high standard
  • Practical experience in retail operations, including POS systems, cash handling, reconciliations and stock processes
