ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Manager, Melbourne Museum Public Programs and Education leads the development and delivery of public programs and education activities at Melbourne Museum, in line with Museums Victoria’s strategic priorities.

This role is responsible for managing the Public Programs and Education team, overseeing program planning, development, scheduling and resourcing, and ensuring the successful delivery of engaging, inclusive and impactful learning experiences for diverse audiences.

The position also drives Museums Victoria’s adult learning strategy, facilitates key partnerships, and leads the delivery of initiatives that increase audience participation and support organisational objectives.

Some of the key duties include: 

  • Leading and managing Melbourne Museum Public Programs and Education staff and resources, ensuring programs are grounded in learning principles and aligned with Museums Victoria’s mission, business objectives and external funding requirements.
  • Identifying emerging trends and opportunities, and developing and delivering innovative adult learning programs to increase audience participation.
  • Fostering a culture of creativity and innovation, including developing new partnerships and program delivery models to expand Museums Victoria’s reach.
  • Coordinating program schedules, staffing and budgets to achieve strong program outcomes and return on investment within agreed timeframes.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with education, tertiary, industry and community stakeholders to support visitation, partnerships and program development.
  • Communicating program schedules, updates and outcomes to internal stakeholders, and leading program activity meetings.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on program performance, including identifying and mitigating risks and delivering program reports and dashboards.

 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams within the cultural sector and delivering innovative programs that meet the needs of diverse audiences and organisational goals.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate, negotiate and present effectively across a complex environment.
  • Knowledge of public programming and contemporary audience engagement practices, with a focus on diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion.
  • Understanding of museum-based learning and the principles underpinning effective education experiences.
  • Experience analysing program performance and using insights to evaluate and optimise program planning, resourcing and delivery outcomes.
  • Knowledge of government initiatives related to creative industries, education, cultural tourism and trends across the GLAM sector.
