Haere mai, whakakotahi mai ki tō mātou tīma!
The MOTAT Society, together with MOTAT’s Collections Hub, is pleased to offer a paid, project-based internship for a student or recent graduate. This internship honours the legacy of Oriel Bickerton and focuses on researching, cataloguing, and rehousing smaller items from MOTAT’s nationally significant Rail collection.
Working alongside the Curatorial Research, Registry and Library & Archive Teams, you will contribute to the documentation, research, and care of collection items, including developing object histories and supporting Collections Online. The role also includes presenting your work and contributing a written article to share your project outcomes.
This opportunity is suited to someone with an interest in Aotearoa New Zealand’s rail history and museum practice, and who is studying or has recently completed a relevant qualification.
This is a paid internship with a fixed stipend of $3,000, with an expected commitment of approximately 100–120 hours. Benefits also include MOTAT Society membership, attendance at the 2026 FRONZ Conference, and hands-on experience in collection management and museum practice.
