Vittoria Benzine, Dutch Court Sentences Thieves in Explosive Museum Heist, Artnet, 8 June 2026
The crime occurred in January 2025 at the Drents Museum.
The 16-month-long saga of the Drents Museum heist reached a major milestone this week, when Dutch courts sentenced three men convicted of stealing Iron Age artifacts to serve 47 months in prison each. Dutch prison sentences are notoriously short, with most lasting less than one year. “Given the nature and seriousness of the facts, only a severe prison sentence can be handed over,” Dutch officials have said, according to the Romanian outlet Agerpres.
