About the Project
The Australian Museum delivers a diverse program of exhibitions that inspire curiosity and connect audiences with science, culture, nature and history. As part of the Exhibition Production team, you will help bring these exhibitions to life, creating engaging experiences for visitors through high-quality fabrication, installation and maintenance work.
About the Role
The Exhibition Project Officer supports the production, fabrication, installation and maintenance of exhibitions across the Museum. Working within a collaborative team, you will contribute to all stages of exhibition delivery, helping transform concepts into engaging visitor experiences.
In this hands-on role, you will undertake a range of fabrication activities, including carpentry, cabinet making, metal fabrication, model making, moulding and casting, and mount making. You will also assist with exhibition installation activities such as object handling and placement, painting, lighting, audiovisual installation and gallery fit outs.
Working closely with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders, you will help ensure exhibitions are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You will also support the team in identifying practical and innovative solutions to production challenges. Maintaining compliance with work health and safety requirements, relevant legislation and industry best practice will be a key aspect of the role.
The position may involve occasional off-site work and flexibility during exhibition installation and de-installation periods.

- Part Time, Fixed term, days to be determined aligned with business needs
You will be paid a competitive total remuneration package of $88,529 – $108,372, including an annual salary of $78,000- $95,482, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation (currently 12%) and annual leave loading.

About you
We are looking for two experienced professionals who can work as part of the Exhibition Production team to ensure that exhibitions are delivered on time, maintained to the highest standards and are engaging, enjoyable and safe for our visitors.
You are a practical and solutions-focused professional with experience in exhibition production, fabrication or a related trade environment. You enjoy working with your hands, take pride in delivering quality work and can adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.
Most importantly, you are motivated by creating high-quality exhibition experiences and enjoy working as part of a team to deliver projects that engage and inspire visitors.
To be eligible for this role at the Australian Museum, you must hold full working rights in Australia and meet all essential requirements listed in the position description.
Knowledge and Experience
- Prior experience with Exhibition fabrication tasks such as carpentry/cabinet making, molding and casting, model making, metal fabrication, mount making, as well as exhibition installation/de-installation.
