Taiki Sakpisit announced as the recipient of Focus Asia: Residency, Commission, Acquisition, ACMI & Parramatta Artists Studios, June 2026

Parramatta Artists Studios (PAS) and ACMI, in partnership with the Playking Foundation, are pleased to announce Bangkok-based filmmaker and visual artist Taiki Sakpisit as the recipient of Focus Asia: Residency, Commission, Acquisition.

Selected through an international open callout, Sakpisit is undertaking a three-month residency at PAS to develop a new performance and moving-image commission through research and engagement with artists and communities across Western Sydney, as well as in Melbourne. The resulting work will premiere at ACMI in Melbourne.

Sakpisit’s work uses cinema as an experimental lens through which to examine Thailand’s contested histories, political violence and the unstable terrain of memory. Formally sophisticated and atmospherically dense, his films often weave together myth, archival fragments and psychological disquiet to create works that are visually arresting and politically incisive.

With three commissioning partners, Focus Asia represents a significant collaboration designed to strengthen relationships between artists and creative communities across the Asia Pacific, Western Sydney and Melbourne. Focus Asia forms part of PAS International: From Western Sydney to the World, PAS’s long-term commitment to international exchange, collaboration and artist development across the Asia Pacific.
