About Powerhouse

Powerhouse Museum is located at the intersection of arts, design, science, and technology and plays a critical role in engaging communities with contemporary ideas and issues. It is the custodian of more than half a million objects of national and international significance and is considered one of the finest and most diverse collections in Australia. We are undertaking a landmark $1.3 billion infrastructure renewal program, led by the creation of Powerhouse Parramatta; expanded research and public facilities at Powerhouse Castle Hill; the heritage revitalisation of the iconic Powerhouse Ultimo; and the ongoing operation of Sydney Observatory.

Powerhouse is seeking an experienced Assistant Registrar to play a key role in the management, storage, movement and accessibility of one of Australia’s most significant museum collections.

Working across multiple Powerhouse sites, you will coordinate the day-to-day delivery of collection storage and logistics activities, lead complex object movements, support operational planning, and work collaboratively with teams across the museum to ensure collection material is stored, transported and accessed safely and efficiently.

This role is suited to someone with strong experience in logistics, storage operations, inventory management or collection management environments who can balance hands-on delivery with coordination responsibilities.

To be successful, you will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience working in storage, logistics, warehousing, collection management or inventory-controlled environments.
  • Experience coordinating operational activities, allocating work and supporting teams to deliver against priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong inventory management skills, including maintaining accurate location and movement records.
  • Experience planning and coordinating the movement, transport and handling of valuable, fragile or complex assets.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and sites.
  • A current unrestricted driver’s licence.

Desirable licences include Forklift, EWP, White Card, Dogging and Medium Rigid (MR) Truck licences.

This recruitment may be used to create a Talent Pool for similar future roles (ongoing or temporary) that may arise over the next 18 months.

We welcome and encourage applications from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTI+, people with disability, people with caring responsibilities, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and veterans.
