Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections, developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events, educational programmes and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories. We are Auckland’s home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.
We are looking for an experienced Learning Specialist to develop and deliver innovative and inspiring educational programming. This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside subject matter experts and our collections to create programmes that inspire curiosity, connection and belonging for our education audiences.
The successful candidate will bring with them a knowledge and passion for museum education and experience of delivering education programmes to ākonga of all ages. Expertise in developing and delivering education programmes within a GLAM institution or similar is preferable.
The Learning Specialist is an advocate for the museum locally, regionally and nationally and will possess a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
This role is responsible for:
- Development and delivery of education programmes in line with our Vision.
- Integrating creativity, up to date/current pedagogical knowledge and community participation into education programmes.
- Contributing and delivering effective, innovative and responsible educational programming and learning experiences.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Māori Dimension (He Korahi Māori) and Pacific Dimension (Teu le Vā).
- Personalising the education visit to the needs of our diverse audiences.
Desired Skills and Experience
Ō pūmanawa | What you will bring
- A relevant degree in education, museum studies or similar.
- Knowledge of the New Zealand education sector and key documents such as Te Whāriki, the New Zealand Curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, National Standards etc.
- A minimum of three to five years’ experience in the education and/or GLAM sectors.
- Strong computer/technology skills.
- Excellent pronunciation of te reo Māori and an understanding of tikanga and mātauranga Māori.
- A clean full driver’s licence.
