The Australian Academy of Science is pleased to invite early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) to apply for the 2027 Theo Murphy Initiative (Australia) (TMIA) grant program.
The 2027 round includes three funding streams. Explore the available opportunities and apply via the individual funding stream webpages:
- Flagship – funding high-impact STEM conferences, symposia and other flagship activities for EMCRs.
- Amplify – funding add-on activities that strengthen and expand the impact of an existing STEM conference or symposium for EMCRs.
- Participation support – funding travel and other eligible participation costs to help early- and mid-career researchers attend STEM conferences, workshops and related activities.
Established by the Royal Society and administered by the Australian Academy of Science, the TMIA provides funding to support EMCRs working across science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Applicants will need to demonstrate how their proposed activity will advance knowledge development within the relevant STEM field(s).
The number of grants awarded under each stream will depend on the quality of applications received and the available program round budget.
Applications close 11.59pm AEDT Monday 5 October 2026.
