Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes. The Auckland War Memorial Museum will be undergoing an exciting period of gallery renewal projects over the coming years and subsequently has an opportunity in the Public Experience Directorate for a Content and Interpretation Developer (3 years fixed term, 40 hrs per wk).

This position will have experience in the development of gallery, exhibition and interpretive media content along with a thorough understanding of visitor needs and learning requirements in a museum context. They need to have understanding of the Museum’s current Treaty of Waitangi obligations in Auckland’s diverse cultural, political and socio-economic landscape.

Key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Supporting the development and delivery of the Gallery Renewal programme in line with audience, content & interpretation strategies
  • Developing innovative and engaging content and interpretation for visitor experiences including approaches that confidently integrate and assert Maori and Pacific content
  • Creating appropriate interpretive approaches for target audiences.
  • Digital, media, and interactive briefing
  • Supporting the development of integrated gallery projects working with internal stakeholders such as, digital, learning and engagement, commercial, marketing, sponsorship, and fundraising
  • Community collaboration, stakeholder liaison on a range of partnership projects. Experience building relationships with Iwi and Maori and Pacific communities and experts is desirable enable diverse and unique Tamaki Makaurau stories and perspectives to be shared with Auckland Museum visitors and audiences
  • Audience advocacy
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience in developing a variety of gallery and exhibition experiences within a complex environment
