You will apply your management skills to lead a curatorial team in the delivery of curatorial and collection based support for Queensland Museum and Sciencentre. This includes a key role in the delivery of a multidisciplinary and collaborative project commemorating the centenary of World War 1 to be opened in November 2018. You will use your management skills and an understanding of curatorial practice to deliver innovative engagement for museum visitors, inspired by real stories and objects. This will result in a large scale permanent exhibition and public program outcomes addressing Queensland’s social and cultural heritage. In addition you will lead a team to manage and develop the social history collections in accordance with agreed strategic priorities of Queensland Museum.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Tertiary, preferably postgraduate, qualification in Australian Social History, or other closely related field (e.g. Australian Studies, Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, Anthropology or Archaeology) from a recognised tertiary institution is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a curatorial team with responsibilities for the delivery of engaging and interactive content for audience focussed projects, including a major new permanent exhibition, in line with Queensland Museum’s commemoration of World War 1. This role is responsible for ensuring project deadlines and agreed outcomes are met, for delivering the curatorial work packages and for collaborating with design teams to realise exhibition objectives
- Work collaboratively with project partners (state and federal government as well as industry partners and community) to meet project deadlines and achieve agreed project outcomes.
- Lead the delivery of the curatorial team to meet brand, vision and strategic and operational plan objectives.
- Manage, mentor, coach and train direct reports, encouraging innovation and excellence.
- Develop work plans and manage projects, including budgets and staff, to deliver innovative contemporary public experience outcomes.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary teams within the Cultures and Histories program and across Queensland Museum to deliver high quality research and innovative public programming content.
- Provide advice and information about Queensland social history collections to the general public, Queensland Museum stakeholders and Government representatives as required.
- Maintain and develop the Social History collections in accordance with professional standards, current research trends and Museum strategic priorities. Seek opportunities for developing the collections through a structured collections policy, exhibition focussed commissions and partnerships.
- Develop a safety culture in the team by modelling and safe practices and behaviour, implementing all required procedures, reducing your safety risks, as far as reasonably practicable, before work commences. Undertake all relevant responsibilities identified in the QMN WHS Accountabilities and Responsibilities Matrix.
