The job opportunity

The Governance & Legal Services team undertakes governance, legal services and audience research functions for the Museum.  The team works with all Business Units across the Museum to ensure they are meeting legal, performance, auditing and/or other requirements relevant to their work.  The Business Unit also has a Secretariat function for meetings of the Museum’s Council and its Committees, as well as its Corporate Management Group and Executive Management Group.

The role will be primarily responsible for the audience research and corporate reporting functions in the organization.  Working in a small team, the position will be required to work independently with limited supervision.

The key duties of the position include:

Duties include: 

  • leading the audience research and evaluation function within the Museum
  • collating visitation statistics and providing ad hoc visitation and related advice
  • developing key planning documents including the Corporate Plan and Portfolio Budget Statements
  • performance measurement, monitoring and reporting against the Strategic Plan and Corporate Plan and
  • supporting the Council secretariat and governance function.

What will the successful candidate bring to the role?

The successful candidate will bring extensive qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation experience to the Museum.  They will have demonstrated experience developing research and evaluation programs, delivering projects and coordinating activities with a range of internal and external stakeholders.  They will also have experience in planning and performance reporting, ideally within the Commonwealth sector.

Strong planning skills and experience analysing data and developing and presenting reports to Executives will be required.  The successful candidate will be able to work in close collaboration with other Business Units and staff and have strong written and oral communication skills.

The expectation is that the successful candidate will work independently, using their professional judgement and bringing substantial prior experience to the role.  They will be expected to solve problems and manage sensitive issues within their sphere of expertise.  A strong focus of the role will be on achieving outcomes and results and making sound decisions, often under time and other pressures.  The ability to improve business processes and come up with creative solutions will be highly valued.
