The Assistant Registrar – Loans and Exhibitions works under limited supervision to lead a dynamic and flexible team of collection management specialists within the Registration team. The position manages the Memorial’s inward and outward loans programs and all aspects of collection movement and installation relating to the Memorial’s exhibitions program. The Assistant Registrar also works directly with the Registrar and the Exhibitions section to schedule and manage object installs, demounts and object changeovers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the Loans and Exhibitions team including staff development, training, support, daily scheduling and resourcing;
  • Manage the inward and outward loans programs including stakeholder correspondence, resourcing, reporting;
  • Work closely with curatorial, conservation and exhibitions teams to identify loan requirements ensuring all documentation, object preparation and packing is completed within agreed timeframes;
  • Work with external stakeholders involved in the loans program including the Department of Defence, Parliament House and national and international cultural institutions;
  • Meet weekly with the Assistant Director, National Collection and Registrar to report on the Loans program;
  • Manage all aspects of collection management relating to exhibition installs, changeover and demounts at the Memorial and at off-site locations when required;
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Exhibitions section to support the Memorial’s exhibition program
  • Work closely with the Assistant Registrar – Collection Storage, Movement and Assurance and the Assistant Registrar – Acquisitions to manage the existing staffing resources within Registration and allocate them where required;
  • Investigate, analyse, develop and implement more efficient and effective collection management policies and procedures relating to loans and exhibition work;
  • Ensure that all collection management activities are documented on the Memorial’s collection management system.

Mandatory Requirements

The Ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 Clearance.
