ABOUT THE POSITION
The Access Coordinator, First Peoples is accountable for the delivery of access services relating to the First Peoples Collections – Australian and International – including cultural material on long-term loan to Museums Victoria, the provision of information about the collections and coordination of access visits.
Key duties of this role include:
- Receiving and responding to all incoming requests from external and internal stakeholders, requesting access to the First Peoples Collections, and coordinating and supervising all physical access by visitors.
- Maintaining relevant electronic and manual information systems.
- Liaising closely with First Peoples curatorial and collection management staff and First Peoples communities regarding access requests, as well as Public Information staff.
- Processing photographic orders, in liaison with relevant staff.
The successful applicant will have:
- Excellent knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and cultures.
- Sound knowledge of the legal and cultural issues concerning public access to First Peoples cultural material, images and documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in scheduling and co-ordinating complex workloads and effective time management.
