About Lizard Island  

The Australian Museum is a NSW government institution that is a leading Sydney attraction and a hub of information, resources and research.

Lizard Island Research Station (LIRS) is owned by the Australian Museum and was established in 1973 to provide a facility for coral reef research. It is located on the northern part of the Great Barrier Reef, about 270 km north of Cairns.

LIRS is a world-leading supplier of on-reef facilities for coral reef research and education. Each year, LIRS supports about 100 research projects with visits by about 350 researchers and their assistants. As well, several student groups of up 22 people visit each year. The Station can accommodate up to 37 visitors and it is often full.

About the Role 

Prepare visitor accommodation, laboratories, and the other areas for visitor arrivals and provide airstrip transfers.

Key accountabilities:

Assist the Maintenance Officer to undertake maintenance projects

Essential Requirements

Due to the nature of this role, the role holder must be willing to work on weekends, public holidays and occasional evenings.

Knowledge and Experience

Adequate knowledge and experience in order to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in this role description.
