ACMI media release, National Film and Sound Archive and ACMI mark a new era for collaboration through signing of MOU,  7 June 2016

On Monday 6 June 2016, the Chairs of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a new era of collaboration between the two agencies.

Ms Gabrielle Trainor, Chair of the NFSA, and Mr Peter Lewinsky, Chair of ACMI, said the MoU marks a new stage in collaboration between the two agencies.

“The MoU will increase engagement between ACMI and the NFSA at a time of significant opportunity and change – as digitisation, broadband and mobile technologies transform the creative process and how we engage with our audiences. This is an important step to work together to promote our shared aims.”

The MoU builds on the long-standing partnership between the NFSA and ACMI which commenced in 2009 with the Australian Mediatheque offering the public audio and video content on-demand at Federation Square. ACMI has licensed numerous exhibits from the NFSA collection and the two agencies have hosted collaborative film seasons. In 2016 the NFSA and ACMI moved into shared premises at ACMI X in Melbourne’s Southbank arts precinct.

The MoU increases collaboration between ACMI and the NFSA through potentially expanding the Australian Mediatheque beyond its physical premises, looking at co-presenting regular screenings and events and working together on education activities and digital engagement.

ACMI and the NFSA will also explore ways to enhance the use of ACMI X as a place of interdisciplinary exchange and information sharing.

The MoU will be in place for four years.
