The 1.3 million visitors who walked through the doors of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image last financial year pushed the film centre up the rankings of the world’s most visited art museums.

ACMI – a cultural agency of Victoria’s state government – attracted the highest number of attendances of any gallery or museum in Australia with the exception of the nearby National Gallery of Victoria.

Now attracting international visitors as well as locals, it is increasingly well known for innovative exhibitions, film festivals and its capacity to explore the past, present and future of the moving image in all its forms. It invests in contemporary works through a commissioning program and has started an international touring program. ACMI’s Game Masters exhibition has already been shown in Sydney and New Zealand and opened in Scotland in early December. Plans are now under way to take DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition to the world over the next five years.
