Acting Head of Collections and Curatorial is responsible for leading a small team of professional staff to deliver a consistently high standard of collection management, care and development, across all collection areas and venues of the Sovereign Hill Museums Association. The position is also responsible for curatorial practice, historical research and responsible interpretation delivering an enhanced visitor experience across the organization.

The Successful Applicant must have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in museum management or a related field is essential
  • Commitment to and understanding of the role of museums in preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage and communicating the significance of this to the wider community through effective public programming
  • Sound knowledge of general museum practice, including collection development, collection management, preventative conservation, administration of loans, exhibition development, design, and installation, and related museum policies and procedures
  • High-level written and oral communication skills
  • High-level computer skills in Microsoft Office programs and museum database programs Vernon CMS, Inmagic DB/Textworks, KE Emu, or similar
  • Excellent organisational skills and proven ability to manage a range of projects simultaneously and to balance priorities
  • Demonstrated capacity to show initiative and provide creative solutions to practical problems
  • Ability to manage staff, interns and volunteers
  • Sound knowledge of OHS standards in the workplace

Qualification, Licenses and Checks

  • Tertiary qualifications in History, Museum Studies, Cultural Heritage Studies, Archaeology, Material Culture or similar fields is essential
  • Working with Children check
  • Police check
  • Current First Aid Certificate
