The search has begun for Australia’s next Chief Scientist to provide vital leadership and advice to the Australian Government.

It comes ahead of Dr Alan Finkel’s term concluding at the end of this year.

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews said the role of science has never been more critical for Australia and the Government has placed the highest priority on its role in supporting our economy and society.

“After our summer of bushfires and as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s never been a more important time to ensure we are getting the best possible scientific advice. The Chief Scientist plays a pivotal role in providing that advice to Government,” Minister Andrews said.

“The Chief Scientist also has a valuable role in bringing the science and research says the the role of science has never been more critical for Australiah communities together with industry.

“I’m determined to further strengthen that collaboration, because I see businesses engaging with our researchers as being a critical part of our post-COVID recovery.

“The Government is searching for a candidate with a substantial scientific track record, significant experience in advising on policy and who can communicate their passion for science with the Australian community.”

The Government has contracted executive search firm Korn Ferry to conduct the national and international search for candidates. Qualified Australian citizens both at home and abroad will be considered for the position.
