The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is the Northern Territory’s premier cultural institution. It offers a dynamic and diverse arts, science and cultural program to more than 300,000 visitors each year.

Primary Objective:
In consultation with the Curator of Australian Art, Curator of Aboriginal Art and Anthropologist, this position is responsible for assisting with the research, development, documentation, display and interpretation of MAGNT’s art collections. Reporting to the Head of Curatorial branch, the position will work collaboratively with colleagues in the care of MAGNT’s collections, as well as the development of exhibitions, public programs, communications that engage the community with these collections and assisting with facilitating access to visiting cultural groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with the research, development and presentation of temporary and permanent exhibitions held in various MAGNT venues.
  2. Conduct research on the art collections and produce documentation that enhances interpretation and knowledge of these collections in a variety of formats for different audiences.
  3. Undertake assessment and cataloguing of the art collections and monitor display, valuation, conservation and restoration activities.
  4. Maintain the accuracy and integrity of administrative and other records relevant to the development and management of the art collections through MAGNT databases and systems.
  5. Contribute to, participate in and deliver Public Program and Education activities as agreed with the Visitor Experience Coordinator.
  6. Help to ensure that projects are professionally researched, creatively produced and evaluated to involve and build diverse audiences.
  7. Assist with the preparation of acquisition proposals and documentation relating to the collection in accordance with the MAGNT collection policy and procedures.
