Position Description:
Under general direction, the Assistant Curator participates in the development, control and care of the Research Centre’s Private Records collection, in both paper and digital form. The work involves liaising with clients, appraisal and acquisition of donation material, arrangement and description of the collection, access to and use of the collection, and research into and promotion of the collection. These activities are documented using the Memorial’s collection management, image management and records management databases. Tertiary level qualifications in archives, library or information management are highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
Participate in the development, control and care of the Private Records collection, in line with the principles of archival management, including:
- Liaison with donors and clients and responding to enquiries
- Appraisal of Private Records donation material
- Arrangement and cataloguing of Private Records material
- Provide advice on the use of the collection to both internal and external parties, especially in regard to copying and copyright, and donor requirements
- Arrange the conservation and preservation of the collection (both physical and digital)
- Undertake housing and storage of the collection to archival standards
- Ensure all relevant documentation is recorded in the relevant collection management systems, e.g. MultiMimsy, MediaBin, and SharePoint.
Also:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of related policies, strategies, systems and standards
- Work within the legislative framework for managing the Research Centre’s collections including, but not limited to, the Australian War Memorial Act, Archives Act and Copyright Act.
- Contribute to the activities of the section, taking responsibility for project and administrative tasks, including setting and managing priorities, developing a work schedule, and tracking and reporting progress
- Contribute to the Memorial’s public programs including social media, talks, tours, and exhibitions
- Contribute to the Research Centre section by developing productive working relationships within the section, with the wider Memorial, and with external stakeholders, as required
- Within a performance management framework, ensure the delivery of required outcomes/outputs, with an emphasis on continuous improvement
- Manual handling and movement of a variety of collection materials, including but not limited to boxes and files
