We also have a 6-month Contract position with the possibility of extension and/or permanency, for another Assistant Curator in which applicants do not need to meet the essential Diving criteria.

About the role: Assistant Curators in the Maritime Heritage Department support the development, curation, and interpretation of the department’s collections. These positions conduct original research and deliver public outcomes aligned to the WA Museum’s Strategic plan and the departmental Operational plan, working collaboratively within the Museum and externally with partners and stakeholders.

You will have relevant qualifications in Maritime Heritage that will enable you to undertake a range of maritime heritage-related work around the State.
The successful applicants will be expected to have:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated research record in Maritime Heritage.
- Experience in planning and undertaking Maritime Heritage fieldwork.
- Ability to work independently, with a high level of written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team.
- High level of technical and computer skills, and knowledge and experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Experience in Museum practices, particularly Collections Management, including artefact photography, and online public access.
- You will be expected to be willing and able to undertake all aspects of fieldwork which includes diving, including being able to pass medical requirements for occupational divers (as defined by AS2299). (Note, not required for the 6-month contract position).
