Assistant Keeper x 5 casual positions

Museums Victoria seeks an enthusiastic Assistant Keeper, Live Exhibits to assist in the development, operation and maintenance of displays and contribute to public programs featuring live animals and plants, including the establishment, maintenance and breeding of animals and plants to guarantee continuous live displays for an optimum visitor experience.


Museum Victoria cares for the State scientific and cultural collections, providing visitor access, activities and events at five distinct venues:  Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum, Scienceworks, IMAX Cinema and world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building.

The position is accountable for assisting with the husbandry, care, display and general management of live animals and planted settings to ensure quality of presentation for visitors. The position is also accountable for contributing to the presentation of public programs and exhibitions.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Undertake daily animal husbandry and plant maintenance duties as directed to ensure the health and quality display of all live exhibits.
  2. Collect husbandry data and communicate pertinent information with other live exhibits staff verbally and through written records, lab diary, labels and email.
  3. In association with other staff, assist in delivering public programs involving live animals and exhibits.
  4. Contribute to the development and delivery of exhibitions and programmes involving live animals.
  5. Comply with Museum Victoria’s policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations
