Museums Victoria is seeking an Assistant Preparator to perform a general range of preparation activities, under the guidance of Senior Preparators and as part of a team and play an active role in achieving Museums Victoria’s strategic objectives through high quality and specialist works in the field of museum preparation.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The position is accountable for providing a general range of high quality preparation services and advice to all museum stakeholders, assisting in the safe and efficient delivery of exhibitions, programs and collection items.
Selection Criteria
- Knowledge of the core theory relating to one of the biological sciences.
- Understanding of a range of preparation techniques, including taxidermy, biological specimen and skeleton preparation.
- Skills in researching, recording and maintaining technical information.
- Knowledge of the principles of moulding and casting design and manufacture of scientific models, props and replicas.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of health & safety requirements relating to workshop tasks using a variety of materials with the ability to model appropriate safe work behaviour.
- Demonstrated ability in illustration, painting, sculpture or other hands-on arts field.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and collaborate with team members and key stakeholders on complex projects in a multi-discipline organisation.
- The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).
