Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced researcher to provide assistance with core museum curatorial duties in Herpetology (1 day per week) until FEB 2024 and in addition to this, assist the Ian Potter Research Fellow at 1 day per week for 1 year, which will contribute to meeting KPIs and research publications on the impacts of fire on reptiles and invertebrates in the Little Desert in Western Victoria.

Working within the Herpetology Research group in the Department of Sciences, key duties of this role include:

  1. Participate as a team member on fieldwork and collection trips.
  2. Undertake core museum curatorial duties in Herpetology, including collecting and recording data for non-grant-funded collection work, public outreach, species identification, and fieldwork.
  3. Undertake research on reptiles and invertebrates in the Little Desert in western Victoria, including DNA extractions, sample preparation, and genetic analysis.
  4. Input data into spreadsheets to maintain research records of molecular, laboratory, and field-based research activities on reptiles and invertebrates in the Little Desert in western Victoria.
