Associate Director, Collections, Research and Engagement

Here is an opportunity that is unlike any other – a role that is perhaps one of the most prolific within the museum sector. As our Associate Director of Collections, Research and Engagement you will have overarching management across the core of the museum, enabling the museum to embark successfully on a unique and inspiring journey.

You will utilise your extensive experience as a senior leader to collaborate with the Heads of Science, Arts, New Zealand and Pacific Culture, and Mātauranga Māori, and the Executive Leadership Team, ensuring that Te Papa runs ‘business as usual’ throughout the entire renewal process. With a view across all curatorial and collection management and learning teams, you will develop a sound strategy that will help the Heads of to create a cultural, artistic, and digital footprint that has never been seen before; one that has the full backing of both the Board and your fellow Executives. Your strong relationship skills will also come to the fore as you establish key partnerships with government agencies, Crown research institutes, Museums Aotearoa, and universities in order to help the museum achieve its objectives.

Your stellar reputation in the industry is indisputable and you are well renowned for both your broad knowledge in the sector and your passion for infusing cultural identity, economic impact, and social cohesion into everything you do. You have impressive relationships with a number of national and international influencers with whom you can connect with at a curatorial and commercial level. You are a mentor and a leader, inspiring a great number of people to develop and deliver your strategies and ideas to fruition and under your guidance, Te Papa will continue to create, engage, and collaborate with the people of New Zealand and our visitors, for now and for years to come.
