The Exhibition Projects and Interpretation team is responsible for managing the interpretation and operational aspects of exhibition projects including the Museum’s permanent, temporary and travelling exhibitions, and other projects as required. The team has a core role in developing and maintaining an audience-centred approach to the delivery of exhibition projects, and in ensuring a collaborative approach to the development of exhibitions. The team coordinates the delivery of evaluation and audience research required for exhibition projects, and ensures the delivery of quality audience experiences. The team is responsible for:
- The management and delivery of a gallery development program, which includes the enhancement and development of new and existing permanent exhibition galleries.
- The delivery of operational requirements for the permanent galleries, including coordination of showcase and module changes, maintenance and the coordination of small scale projects that contribute to the delivery of a high quality visitor experience.
- The delivery of temporary exhibitions, both internally and externally developed, on a regular basis for display in the Museum’s three temporary gallery spaces.
- Management of a travelling exhibition program that includes a range of different sized exhibitions that tour to metropolitan, regional and remote Australia and internationally.
- Leadership and coordination of interpretation related tasks, such as formative and summative evaluation, related to the development of all exhibition projects.
Details of the position
The Audience Research Manager will coordinate audience research across a range of projects, and will assist Museum staff to apply research insights and data to the development and delivery of major development activities over the next three years. This position represents the recommencement of audience research after a hiatus of several years, and the position will need to design and implement a revived audience research program. The Audience Research Manager reports to the Manager, Exhibition Projects and Interpretation, and receives broad general guidance in relation to strategic and operational outcomes from their supervisor, the Major Projects Steering Committee and the Executive Management Group. The position holder is responsible for ensuring that research findings and data analysis are used to enhance development projects, and for advising project teams in the practical application of audience research in content development, interpretation, learning and design activities. The Audience Research Manager will have project management responsibilities, including coordination of a range of activities, contractors and other service providers required to deliver research activities, and will monitor and report on budget. The Audience Research Manager will have an important role in ensuring that the Museum’s Executive team is briefed on outcomes of audience research, and will assist in identifying the use of audience research in relation to Key Performance Indicators, and Strategic and Corporate Plan reporting. Internally, the Audience Research Manager will work in close collaboration with the Development Project teams, setting out research and work plans in consultation with the Producer or project manager.
