Positioned within the Digital Engagement and IT team, the Audiovisual Experience Technician is responsible for ensuring the ongoing operation of the exhibition-based technology for the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House. The role includes contributing to the planning, purchase, installation, day-to-day operation and maintenance of a range of IT, multimedia anmber 2020d audio-visual equipment, in close collaboration with the Digital Engagement and IT team. The Audiovisual Experience Technician also works closely with the ICT Coordinator in providing support to the Museum’s corporate IT environment and provides basic audio-visual production management for onsite events and programs, supplemented by contractor support for larger events.

In this versatile position, the successful applicant will be skilled in balancing routine maintenance duties with urgent requests to repair a wide range of audiovisual systems and equipment to ensure exhibitions remain operational at all times.

Due to the nature of the role, overtime is a frequent requirement of the position and applicants must have flexibility to work overtime, including evenings and weekends, sometimes at short notice.  The position will be supplemented with support from external contractors with specialist knowledge of exhibition multimedia and for the set-up and operation of audiovisual equipment for large-scale programs at the museum.

Under the broad supervision of the Manager, Digital Engagement and IT, the Audiovisual Experience Technician will:

  • Manage and maintain IT, multimedia and audiovisual equipment to ensure exhibitions remain operational.
  • Plan and implement lifecycle plan and procurement of IT, multimedia and audiovisual equipment for exhibitions including the provision of advice on appropriate electronic equipment for use in the Museum and undertaking feasibility studies when new technology is required.
  • Co-ordinate, manage and undertake the set-up of audiovisual equipment for events.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures, asset and maintenance registers for all IT, multimedia and audiovisual equipment.
  • Support the Exhibitions and Events team with content preparation and the production and installation of exhibitions including liaison with and the supervision of external contractors in the production and installation of audiovisual and multimedia equipment and software development for exhibitions.
  • Assist in the day to day operations of the Digital and IT team.
