The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for-profit community-based museum organisation that collects, researches and interprets the heritage of the goldrushes and the Ballarat region. The organisation includes Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, the Gold Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool.

We are currently seeking to appoint two Driver Guides on a casual basis for our AURA shows.

By following set routines and safety checks under supervision, the Driver Guide ensures visitors are safely transported throughout the show whilst providing and maintaining excellent customer service at all times.

The position requires the operation of passenger vehicles with up to 120 passengers on dirt/gravel roads after sunset and to assist passengers with special needs eg. Wheelchairs, crutches etc. Additionally, some job tasks require employee to safely negotiate uneven, stepped and dimly light areas.

As Driver, you will be required to:

  • Safely operate and drive the show vehicles, according to standard
  • operating procedures
  • Perform necessary safety checks on the vehicles including brakes, rails
  • etc. and have a basic vehicle service knowledge and responsibility
  • Ensure all aspects of the vehicles are operational eg. P.A. system &
  • Wheelchair lift before commencing
  • Effectively manage road condition and where required water or apply
  • gravel
  • Ensure all passengers are secured prior to departure of the vehicle
  • Passengers seated, wheelchairs secured and safety rails locked
  • Ensure vehicles are secure and plugged in at the end end of the night as
  • per SOP to be re-charged ready for next show

To be successful in attaining this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Previous driving experience such as bus driving, limousine/hire car, truck driving etc. would be preferred but not essential
  • Previous experience within a tourism or customer service environment would be highly regarded
  • Presenting/Public Speaking/Interpreting/Guiding experience is preferred but not essential
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Retail skills including sales and cash handling experience would be an advantage
  • Good communications skills, an outgoing personality and a genuine orientation to people
  • Ability to work across flexible evening rosters including weekends, public holidays and school
  • holidays
  • A passion for Sovereign Hill with the ability to interpret history

Qualifications, Licenses and Clearance requirements:

  • A Certificate or Diploma in Tourism or Theatre Studies or Performing Arts will be highly regarded
  • Victorian / Australian Drivers license
  • Medium Rigid truck license is preferred but not essential
  • Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate is preferred but not essential
  • Working With Children Check
  • Police Check
  • Pre-employment medical
