The British Council is expanding its cultural skills work with short term training sessions for cultural managers in the museum and festivals areas. I hope the following may be useful for some developing Australian museum managers:

The British Council is delighted to announce the International Museum Academy: UK 2016, a major programme of museum short courses that will run consecutively in galleries and museums across the UK in August 2016.

Vision

The vision of the International Museum Academy is to provide emerging museum and gallery leaders from around the world with the knowledge and skills necessary to increase the growth and sustainability of galleries and museums in their countries.

Programme

Participants will gain exclusive access to world class collections, network with museum and gallery directors, and develop strategic plans for their institutions.  Courses will offer an innovative mix of seminars with leading UK museum professionals, creative workshops, hands on sessions and ‘behind the scenes’ tours.  The programme will provide a collaborative environment for sharing best practice and exploring common challenges, as well as the opportunity to participate in a global network of alumni.  Ongoing support will be given through one-to-one mentorship.

Applications

Entry for applications will open online in late January 2016.

Eligibility criteria:

  • English proficiency of IELTS Level 6.5 (or equivalent)
  • 3+ years’ experience working in museums and galleries
